certitude for sure hardens society
(open up to possibilities, perceptions)
knowledge consciously clutters minds
(ponder over the depth of Alif*)
wisdom clears your heart with poise
(submerge into the clarity of silence)
observation subtly soothes the soul
(kindle your awareness from within)
certitude, for sure
restrains the promise of infinity

* Alif is the first letter of the Arabic alphabet
Ilm-oun bas kareen o yaar
Ik Alif teray darkaar
(Stop seeking all this knowledge my friend
Only an Alif is what you need)

Hey this Punjabi poem is awesome. The translation is done well. I learned some Punjabi when we lived in Rawalpindi. It’s awesome to find such a thoughtful poem. Thanks Sonya! :)

Yes Ranu, I love that site which has given not only the literal but also the poetic translation. In addition, there is some historical background as well. I am sure Robert will also agree that Technology of the Heart is one of the best resources for Sufi works and history.

Indeed, an alif is all one needs to start the long journey within. Pity that these Sufi thoughts are somehow getting lost in the new haze that is enveloping us.
Request – I’d posted this piece since i pretty strong view on the subject. If you could have a look? Many thanks, as always! Bless you & yours!
