my senses

my tongue tastes the
sweetness of your breath
ears yield to
gentle whispers
skin shivers at the thought
of your warm scent
I avert my eyes as
you gaze knowingly

**

let Him take away
my humanity
my sanity
my intellectuality
even my reality

but if He deprives me
any of my senses
I shall complain bitterly
till the end of my days
and each moment of infinity
shall be spent in defiance

  1. This is a wonderfully, deceptively complex poem. I kind of see it as a failed a toxic love being compared to a God, a false god, like all gods or Gods are. such duality such quality. Defy!

    1. I agree about the complexity of the poem, am glad that you see it that way. My defiance to God is in the belief that we are encouraged to question as opposed to submissively accept His word.

Thank you for your perspective and am pleased to welcome you to my blog.

  3. I believe He would be worse off for taking away senses that are so delightfully perceptive of Him. This is the type of poetry that dares readers to come close and test their beliefs. I can only imagine the courage and sincerity of the poet. Bravo!

  4. It is a great piece Sonya. Ripe with sensuality and a hint of something else. Love it, totally.
Stay well, and keep sensing… feeling…
