an imperfect god

just as I seek to better myself, so
god also strives for improvement
he must seek ways to make himself known
to the questioning young minds, and
those who no longer believe
refusing to accept
fate’s cruelty
destruction
disease
disability
surely which creator would torment
its own creation thus?
and so god must innovate
steadily
to present himself
not exclusively through faith
nor fear
no longer is guilt effective
he must reinvent
reincarnate
resonate

my god lives
in an undefined state
of constant evolution

my god is
far from perfect
for the concept of perfection
in itself implies reaching a limit

  1. You, ma’am, are a “master”, opening up new channels of thought and image aid to express them. This is another of those that questions the status quo as it were, and forces us to stretch our minds. Bravo!

  2. Very interesting indeed… your twist about the limit of perfection is thought provoking indeed… Now that you are making me question God’s perfection, this is a poem that requires “rumination”. Would it not be wonderful to discuss these ideas? Especially, since I can tell that your concept of God is far from imperfect…

    1. Do you recognise this:

“The foremost in religion is the acknowledgment of Him, the perfection of acknowledging Him is to testify Him, the perfection of testifying Him is to believe in His Oneness, the perfection of believing in His Oneness is to regard Him Pure, and the perfection of His Purity is to deny Him attributes, because every attribute is a proof that it is different from that to which it is attributed and everything to which something is attributed is different from the attribute.”

In this case, the offending attribute could be “perfection”… :-)

    1. I am so so pleased those lines struck a chord with you. It was the essence of my thoughts, the twist, I would like to call it, in my poem. Thanks for your visit and appreciate your comments.

  3. Dear Sonya,

This is an amazing poem. For me, at least, it hints, and points, toward an enlivenment and evolution of the innate powers in humankind.

Thank you very much for this.

    All good wishes,

    robert

I would love to have your thoughts
