Love looks like yesterday
The skipping rope cast away
As recess ended in school
And Travolta’s eyes were so blue
Those boys in flared trousers
Like knights in shining armours
When in discos we actually went to dance
And books made us believe in romance
You looked pretty enough in your own skin
Not yet pressured to become thin
When flirting was with our eyes
Not through a screen that hid lies
No drinks or drugs to have fun
Nor fancy gadgets to impress anyone
Words of the Bee Gees would once suffice
With pocket money we had to improvise
Yes today relationships easily fade away
And love …
Well love looks like yesterday
Yesterday I believed in love…
…Today love believes in me :-)
This flows so effortlessly and captures that young girl and now perhaps love is less exciting! Or sadly not there. Very poignant.

I remember those days. Each generation thinks theirs were the only ones who ever knew love.

Social media has changed our courting rituals and not for the better. The time you described was more authentic. Enjoyed your poem.I had forgotten about the BeeGees. They were a good band !

this was nostalgic and fun. I can see my parents in your poem, as they were 70s youngsters. Disco’ing to the Beegees and ABBA and Donna Summer. hehe. Happy Valentine’s to you!

Every word and thought in this poem is precious… It is a rare blessing for someone to have the ability to transport us back to when shy softness characterized love, when it took time and courage to even look up directly at your crush. I am sure love believes in you… You are worthy… This poem clinches for you a permanent devotee in me :-) Bravo!
