Stained Reflections

Re-created as separate entities
to reflect ourselves through each other
torn at being apart
yet bound forever
by the thinnest thread we strive to sever

You cleanse your sins
by staining my soul
in retaliation I break away to hurt
it is only my own reflection I distort

When we are still and face one another
reflections within reflections
we see the infinity in ourselves

We will never merge
your left will always be my right
my tears you cannot dry
I am your only weakness
perhaps your biggest strength
if your image disturbs me
I need to look within myself

How different are you from me?
mirror upon mirror we shatter
sacrificing lives so cheaply
in every death we deny
the truth of our reflections

  1. Hello Robert,

Thank you for those beautiful quotations. Indeed, we are never complete on our own.

I have read Bulleh Shah’s famous words similar to Baba Farid’s that you mentioned…

Tear down the Mosque, tear down the temple
Tear down every thing in sight
But don’t (tear down) break anyone’s heart
    Because God lives there

Robert, although my writings are not worthy, I am deeply touched by your thoughts.

  2. Greetings,

Thank you very much for this.

Khalil Jibran said: “You are blind and I am deaf and dumb, so let us touch hands and understand.”

You have, just as strongly and poignantly and beautifully, expressed this unity of us all.

This beautiful poem reminds me of the words of Baba Farid to whom it is attributed:

“Do not utter even a single harsh word; your True Lord and Master abides in all.
Do not break anyone’s heart; these are all priceless jewels.
The minds of all are like precious jewels; to harm them is not good at all.
If you desire your Beloved, then do not break anyone’s heart.”

This poem that you’ve kindly shared here is full of weight and depth. Very beautiful…

You can influence humanity with this (and all your other writings). This is soul food.

    All good wishes,

    robert
